The primary objectives of the GlobICE project are the exploitation of the ESA SAR archive to generate products of best use to the climate community over Arctic sea ice. Specifically, the project provides Arctic-wide estimates of:

Sea Ice Motion

Sea Ice Deformation

Sea Ice Mass Flux through selected gateways

GlobICE products for the Arctic Ocean, derived from Envisat ASAR WS imagery, are currently available for the following periods:

YearAvailable Months
2011Jan-Apr
2010Jan-Apr, Oct-Dec
2009Jan-Apr, Nov-Dec
2008Jan-Apr, Nov-Dec
2007Nov-Dec
2005Jan-Feb
2004Nov-Dec

The GlobICE processor was also adapted as a prototype to process Antarctic sea ice dynamics. Two months of data from the southern hemisphere winter of 2010 were successfully processed (August and September) and are now available via ftp.
